Ermelo Youth take a stand on taxis

The Board was established in 2009 with the aim of mobilising the youth into taking action about issues that affect them.

The Mpumalanga Independent Youth Board organisation in Ermelo has taken a stand against service rendered by the Ermelo Taxi Association (ETA).

The Board wrote to the Taxi Association to voice their dissatisfaction about, among others, the unsafe taxi drop-offs, taxis not driving to certain areas in Ext 34 and 35 and time wasted while waiting for a taxi to be full.

The Board was established in 2009 with the aim of mobilising the youth into taking action about issues that affect them.

Excellent Mdluli, the president of the organisation, said they are concerned about environmental, economic and social issues that affect the youth of Ermelo.

“Social ills such as HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy, child-headed families, drugs and alcohol abuse are of huge concern to us,” said Mr Mdluli.

The ETA has responded to some of the grievances levelled by the Youth Board. They said they are unable to reach out to certain areas because of the condition of the roads. They said they have raised these issues with the municipality.

The Board intends hosting entrepreneurial workshops to up-skill the youth and educate them about how to become an entrepreneur.
