Businessman gives back to community

Mr Mthethwa hopes that other business people will follow suit and help to uplift the community, especially the youth.

The youth of Kwa-Zanele, Breyten kick-started the year with a bang when a local businessman offered to help 10 indigent young people with all expenses paid for driving lessons.

Mr Nsongo Douglas Mthethwa, known as “Nyambose”, identified this initiative as one that will yield positive results with the youth and an opportunity for him to give back to the community of Kwa-Zanele.

“I have been in the driving school business for five years and know how expensive a driver’s licence can be, that’s why I decided to lend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate,” said Mr Mthethwa.

The beneficiaries were identified with the help of youth community leaders and two municipal employees, Ms Sibongile Mndebele and Ms Linah Sibeko.

“We gave preference to orphans and households headed by unemployed parents,” said the two ladies. The youth coordinator, known as Mtara, emphasised that all the beneficiaries are in no way linked politically and otherwise to them as youth community leaders.

Most of the beneficiaries are already at an advanced stage with their driving lessons and already have their learner’s driver licence.

They are grateful to Mr Mthethwa for such an opportunity, as it will open doors for them.

“A driver’s licence is important, especially in our area with all the mines and power stations. It is a prerequisite for many jobs,” said one member of the group.

Mr Mthethwa hopes that other business people will follow suit and help to uplift the community, especially the youth.
