Sewage spill vexes residents

Sewer problems persist.

Ms Maria Ngomane has been forced to relocate three of her grandchildren due to ill-health said to be caused by sewerage problems at her house in Ward 2 of the eMadamini extension.

Ms Ngomane says her grandchildren have been constantly ill and doctors told her the children suffered from various infections due to the unhygienic environment they live in.

According to Ms Ngomane and her neighbours, she has been struggling to receive help from the municipality with a sewer spillage in her yard for the past three months.

“The sewage flows in front of my yard and into the house, causing a nuisance and discomfort to me, my family and neighbours,” said Ms Ngomane in a telephonic interview with the Highvelder.

She added that she is also suffering from chest pains and suspects the sewage to be the cause.

Ms Ngomane and some of her neighbours the newspaper spoke to said the matter was reported to their ward councillor on numerous occasions, but no help was forthcoming.

“I’ve reported the matter to the municipal call centre, but to this day I’m yet to receive any form of assistance,”said Ms Ngomane.

Her neighbours resorted to digging trenches to channel the sewer spillage to the nearest drainage system.

Msukaligwa municipal spokesman Mr Mandla Zwane was not available for comment at the time of going to print.
