Fed up with municipal ‘rubbish’

According to one of the residents, it has been two months since refuse was collected

Residents in Breyten are fed up with the poor service delivery in their town.

According to one of the residents, it has been two months since refuse was collected and they are considering dumping their refuse bags on the grounds of the municipal offices.

Residents are also angered by the state of the municipal dump site which is located next to the cemetery.

They believe the over-filled site poses a health risk to residents.

Msukaligwa spokesman, Mr Mandla Zwane, said the municipality acknowledged the state of the dump site.

According to Mr Zwane, waste is being dumped illegally in this area and it will be cleared up during the upcoming “cleaning up my ward” campaign which will be launched soon.

Mr Zwane added that the area is not fenced according to requirements.

“However, the project to fence the site and operate it accordingly has been placed in the IDP and funding is being sourced.

On the matter of refuse collection Mr Zwane responded by explaining that the tractor used for collection the refuse has broken down and “the area has since been serviced by a refuse truck that is allocated to Ermelo, which immediately after finishing its block in Ermelo, services Breyten. Currently the area is serviced on a skeleton system.”

Mr Zwane also said refuse removal services are being rendered in Breyten at least once a week.

“The municipality would like to extend an unconditional apology to the community of KwaZanele and Breyten for the inconvenience caused,” said Mr Zwane.
