Gert Sibande Municipality issues urgent warning over phishing emails
The suspicious emails have reached recipients outside the municipality, prompting warnings against clicking links or opening attachments.
Gert Sibande District Municipality has issued an urgent security warning after suspicious phishing emails were sent from email addresses belonging to two employees, Jabu Magagula and Skhumbuzo Manana.
The emails, carrying the subject lines “FOLLOW UP” and “URGENT” respectively, have also reached recipients outside the municipality.
The municipality is urging everyone who receives these emails to delete them without opening them and to remain vigilant when receiving suspicious messages.
Recipients are warned not to click on links contained in the emails, open suspicious attachments, scan the QR code or provide personal or login information. Report suspicious emails to the municipality.
The municipality warned its employees and residents that opening suspicious links could compromise computers and expose information and municipal systems to further security threats.
