Anglers save motorist from drowning

Two anglers rescue drowning motorist from Pet Dam in Ermelo.

Two anglers who were camping at the Pet Dam in Ermelo saved a motorist from drowning after he had driven into the dam at about 22:00 on Friday night.

JJ Kruger and Leonard Deysel braved the icy waters and rushed to the motorist’s aid after he had surfaced from the submerged vehicle and was having difficulty in keeping his head above the water.

The two heros managed to drag the victim to shore and emergency services were called to the scene. The motorist was stabilised and taken to hospital in a delirious state.

The submerged vehicle was pulled from the dam on Saturday morning after divers from the SAP Mpumalanga diving unit had established that no other people had been trapped in the vehicle.

This was the second incident at the dam within a week.

On Saturday last week a man drowned in the dam after he ran into the water for unknown reasons.
