Two Building Control Officers suspended

Two employees were placed on precautionary suspension with full pay last Friday, pending further investigation.

A recent Highvelder article questioning the building plans and rezoning of a then building site in Fourie Street led to an investigation by the municipality.

The investigation found that the Building Control Officer approved the building plans for the development on Erf 446, on the corner of Fourie and Sluiter Street without taking into consideration the requisite zoning rights applicable on the subject property.

According to the spokesman for the Msukaligwa Local Municipality, Mr Mandla Zwane, two employees were placed on precautionary suspension with full pay last Friday, pending further investigation.

He added that the suspension does not constitute a prejudice of guilt or no guilt of the employees concerned and their suspension is to ensure that the investigation is finalised without delay and fairly.

Due to the pending internal disciplinary proceedings on the matter, Mr Zwane was not at liberty to comment further until the matter is concluded.
