Eleven injured in CBD head-on collision
The vehicles had to be winched apart by breakdown service personnel.
Eleven people suffered injuries ranging from serious to slight in a horror head-on crash in the Ermelo CBD shortly after 22:00 on Saturday night.
The two seriously injured occupants of a VW Golf had to be freed from the wreckage by emergency personnel of the Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services using the jaws of life.
Two occupants of a VW Minibus were also seriously injured while another seven suffered injuries ranging from broken limbs to cuts and bruises.
All the injured were stabilised and treated on the scene by EMT’s of Mpumalanga Emergency Services, Er24 and Life Care Response before being transported to hospital.
The VW Minibus was part of a convoy of vehicles in which family members were travelling back to Middelburg after attending a wedding ceremony in Newcastle.
According the driver of one of the vehicles in the convoy they had stopped to refuel at a filling station in Kerk Street only minutes before.
Scarcely 200 meters after resuming their journey, the VW Golf which was travelling on the wrong side of the road collided head-on with the Minibus.
The force of the impact entangled the vehicles and they had to be winched apart by breakdown service personnel.
A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated.
