Nerston police nab dagga smuggler

Packets of dagga were packed around the engine. More dagga was found inside the vehicle.

A 39-year-old woman, Nobuhle Ntombi Dlamini was arrested by the Nerston Border police on Sunday on charges relating to the possession of and smuggling of dagga.

Dlamini, a South African citizen, appeared in the Amsterdam regional court on Monday.

A police spokesman said Dlamini, who was driving a Toyota Hilux with Lesotho registered plates, had attempted to pass through the border post from Swaziland.

During a routine search, a police officer on duty, Warrant Officer W.O. Mbokazi opened the bonnet of the vehicle and discovered  packets of dagga packed around the engine.

A further search of the vehicle revealed several more packets of dagga hidden under and behind the seats.

Altogether 18 packets of dagga with a total weight of 10.750kg were found. The street value is estimated at R32, 250-00.
