State of the District delivers while IDP and final budget approved

After community consultations throughout the district, the IDP and final budget were tabled to Council for deliberations and approval.

The State of the District (S0D) address was delivered with aplomb and the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and final budget adopted at the Gert Sibande District Municipality recently.

The event kicked off with glitz and glamour as political figures of all seven local municipalities walked the red carpet in front of the towering GSDM building.

After community consultations throughout the district, the IDP and final budget were tabled to Council for deliberations and approval, with Executive Mayor, Mr M Chirwa , presenting to those in attendance.

During budget consultations, the community proposed that the Rights of a Child budget be increased.

Money has been budgeted for youth development, where the youth will be assisted with starter packs for their businesses, while new co-operatives get help with the setting up of their companies.

The bursaries budget has been increased for more learners in the different municipalities to have study opportunities at institutions of higher learning.

As seen on the draft budget, Msukaligwa will receive R550 000 to use for water quality testing, R140 000 for sanitation and R170 000 for the maintenance of boreholes.

The municipality will also benefit from the R5 million pothole repair projects and an amount of R16,5 million will be spent for the purchase of a “yellow” fleet, which will include a low bed and tipper trucks, compaction roller, front-end loader, back hoe loader and a water tanker, which will be rotated throughout the district when and if required.
