Various projects on the cards for Msukaligwa after IDP meeting held at the Civic Centre

The projects include the construction of a library in Warburton, a clinic in Ext 32 in Ermelo, the Sheepmoor Bulk Water Supply project, and the clustering of the Msukaligwa settlements into one regional scheme and supplying them with water.

Msukaligwa Municipality is currently on a consultative program and hosted the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Representative Forum meeting at the Civic Centre on Thursday, 6 December, where programmes pertaining to the IDP for Msukaligwa will be considered.

The forum aims, among others, to co-ordinate the work of local and other spheres of government in a coherent plan to improve the quality of life for all the people of Msukaligwa.

Councillors, Ward Committees, CDW’s, all spheres of government departments officials, interested community members and parties were in attendance at the meeting held at the Ella De Bruin Hall.

Various speakers presented on numerous projects their department have embarked on and updated all present on the status of such.

The manager in the IDP office in Msukaligwa, Mr Jerry Thulare, kicked off the presentations and presented on the implementation of the IDP process plan and provided a brief summary of the community needs per ward.

Mr Goodwill Ngcobo from the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) presented on projects implemented by GSDM in Msukaligwa in the 2018/2019 financial year.

The projects include but not limited to the following:

• The Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant (RBIG) Water Project in Sheepmoor
• Repairing of potholes through cooperatives
• Resurfacing of Oosthuize Street in Ermelo

Mr Silo Kheva from the Department of Water and Sanitation gave a detailed presentation on water-related projects in Msukaligwa that are for the bulk water infrastructure.

The first project aims to ensure reliable water supply in the urban and semi-urban settlements in Msukaligwa.

These include the clustering of Breyten (Kwazanele), Chrissiesmeer (Kwachibikulu), Warburton (Nganga Village) and Lothair (Silindile) into one regional scheme and supplying them with water from Torbanite Dam, augmented from the Westoe, Morgenstond and Jericho Dams via the Upper Komati Pipeline, tapped off from the Vaal River Eastern sub-system pipeline close to the Camden Power Station.

The second sub scheme entails the supplying of Ermelo (Wesselton) with water from the Brummer and Douglas Dams augmented from well fields close to Ermelo and the Westoe, Morgenstond and Jericho Dams via the Vaal River Eastern sub-system pipeline.

The project will serve a projected population of 161,160 people in all the above-mentioned places by 2033 for an estimated cost of R 508,257,003 million.

The second project, which is currently underway, is at Sheepmoor where the Sheepmoor bulk water supply entails the construction of a 6.1-kilometer pipeline from the Usuthu Vaal Pipeline to the Sheepmoor Community.

This project will benefit 720 households.

Mr Rajen Naidoo from the Department of Health, Corporate Services gave an update on the construction of the Ext 32 Clinic.

Phase one of the construction of the clinic was to erect concrete palisade fencing which has been completed.

Phase two is the construction of a new Community Health Centre and accommodation units which will cost a total of R35 million.
