The Highvelder visited Pet Dam on 29 May and could not tell apart the dam from the grass.
A blanket of algae covered the surface of the dam.
The Highvelder sent enquiries to Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman of Msukaligwa Municipality, about what causes the algae which is seen one day and vanishes the next.
He responded: “I can unfortunately not answer the question with confidence.”
