New Ermelo Primary School educators have converted a classroom into a library.

Ms Thembi Mathenjwa, teacher librarian from New Ermelo Primary School, said the school is in an area that has a high level of poverty, community members are unemployed and dependant on social grants for their children to survive.

Languages such as Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele and Pedi are spoken in the surrounding community.

The school decided to implement a library to develop learners knowledge and their love for reading.

Now that the library is open, learners participate in reading competitions, learners read during assembly and organise spelling Bee events.
