Ward councillor charged with assault and discharge of firearm

The councillor will appear on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), on three counts in Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 26 September.

A ward councillor from Msukaligwa Local Municipality has been charged with allegations of assault and the discharging of a firearm on 14 September.

According to Mr David Nhlabathi, spokesman from Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, money was paid to the councilor for a tender.

A local, who wishes to remain anonymous, allegedly made a payment of R10 000 to the councillor as he was promised a sub-contractor’s job for  asserting of low cost housing.

The councillor will appear on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), on three counts in Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 26 September.

Other cases are also being investigated.
