Drugs usage a huge problem in Ermelo – Christian Social Council’s social worker

Motsamai said residents must remember that once you are addicted, you will battle a lifelong illness.

ERMELO – Ermelo Lighthouse will now have weekly Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings to help relieve the drug problem in town.

According to Jeana Motsamai, a social worker at the Christian Social Council (CSC), they felt it was a great opportunity, as people go to the Lighthouse to receive food.

“Most of the people we have spoken to said they do not want to use drugs anymore, but that it is not that easy to just let go,” Motsamai said.

She said drugs are a huge problem in town, and not only for the people living on the streets, but also among children.

Motsamai said residents must remember that once you are addicted, you will likely battle a lifelong illness.

One of the main purposes of the Lighthouse is to help the people on the streets of Ermelo, including drug addicts and prostitutes.

They focus on getting these people to attend the weekly NA meetings at the CSC, reuniting them with their family and helping them to get into a rehabilitation centre.
