Suncity trio aims at helping men fight unspoken mental battles

The organisation will soon hold their forthcoming men’s mental health awareness event, which will be hosted in Suncity in July 23.

WESSELTON – The founders of Msukaligwa Men’s Movement Gatekeepers are proud to announce the launch of this non-profit organisation, established in July.

Having background in working with the community and lending a help to those in need, Welcome Mkhonza, Mxolisi Magubane and Vincent Molemane aim to advocate for boys and men in the area

According to Mkhonza, the goal of the organisation is to provide psychological and spiritual counselling to the young people as a way to guide them away from social issues such as gangsterism.

The organisation has recently implemented its Tuesday men outreach programme, held in Thuthukani Community Hall.

Mkhonza said, “Men and young boys are faced with dreadful obstacles for which they barely receive safe space to discuss their struggles. Our purpose is to provide them reassurance for all the hurdles they are encountering.”-
He noted that challenges facing local men include mental health, the terrible effects of unemployment, and broken homes.

They also announced their forthcoming men’s mental health awareness event, which will be hosted in Suncity in July 23. They hope to open a recovery facility in the future that will aid young men, particularly those with drug problems.

“When dealing with it, we must address the root of the problem and then deal with the immediate problem by referring the person to the appropriate stakeholders, such as the Department of Social Development. Substance abuse and crime are not always social problems; they can also be spiritual and psychological.”
