Children who died in fire in Hendrina set to be buried in Mozambique

According to Ward 1 councillor, Bathobile Shabangu, the family is still awaiting DNA results to confirm that the children are Kulube's, as well as for a permit to transport the remains.

HENDRINA – Marikana Informal Settlement’s two sets of twins who burned to death on the morning of July 4, are set to be buried at their home in Mozambique.

The children, supposedly of an undocumented Mozambique national, Catherine Kulube (33), were allegedly left in the care of their brother (17) when their shack was destroyed by a blaze.

According to information provided by a provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the children were aged eight and 13 and were certified dead on arrival by the police.

Ward 1 Cllr Bathobile Shabangu said the incident was horrific and had left the residents in shock and dismay.

According to her, no date has been set for the funeral as they are still awaiting DNA results to confirm that the children are Kulube’s, as well as for a permit to transport the remains.
