Library week celebrated with focus on reading and learning
Learners were given the opportunity to address their peers, demonstrating both research and public speaking skills.
New Ermelo Primary School recently celebrated Library Week with a programme highlighting the importance of reading and access to information.
The event formed part of the national initiative to promote libraries as centres of learning and community development.
The programme included an opening prayer and the singing of the national anthem, followed by a series of learner-led presentations.

Learners from different grades took part, sharing information on topics such as the role of libraries, book classifications and different genres of reading material.
Learners were given the opportunity to address their peers, demonstrating both research and public speaking skills.
The presentations reflected preparation and engagement with the theme of the week.
The event also included a poem read by one of the learners.
Organisers indicated that the aim of the programme was to encourage a culture of reading among learners and to highlight the value of libraries in education.

Activities were aligned with the broader theme of promoting knowledge and empowering learners through access to information.
Library Week is observed annually across South Africa, with schools and institutions hosting activities to raise awareness about the role of libraries in society.
