Two dead on New Year’s Day after shooting incident in Ermelo
Two suspects, aged 45 and 50, were arrested by the police later that morning, around 09:00, in connection with the incident.
ERMELO – Two 21-year-old men were declared dead on January 1 at the Ermelo Provincial Hospital following a shooting incident in 1st Street.
According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson of the Ermelo Police, the incident occurred around 03:00 while the two men were sitting in a Toyota Avanza in a parking area in front of Taste.
It is alleged that suspects in a Mercedes Benz shot at the vehicle.
A friend of the victims took them to the provincial hospital, where one of the men was declared dead on arrival, and the other succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
Several cartriges and two projectiles were recovered at the scene. The police later arrested two suspects, aged 45 and 50, respectively, on the same morning around 09:00 in connection with the incident.
The Ermelo Police is currently investigating the incident as a double murder.
