Intelligence-led operation in Mayflower leads to the recovery of 18 cattle and multiple arrests in the fight against stock theft.
MAYFLOWER – An intelligence-driven operation aimed at combatting stock theft resulted in the confiscation of 18 cattle and the arrest of six people on April 2.
Led by the acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, the joint cross-border operation was a collaboration of law enforcement agencies, including various departments, namely, the SAPS, the SANDF, the Department of Home Affairs, the community policing forum members and the police from the Kingdom of eSwatini.
The operation focused on inspecting livestock and kraals in the area, leading to the discovery of 18 cattle suspected of being stolen.
Sixteen of these cattle bore brand marks belonging to owners in eSwatini, while two others were found with suspicious double brand markings, suggesting possible theft.
Livestock owners from both South Africa and eSwatini were present to identify their animals. In total, 94 cattle and 18 goats were inspected during the operation.
