Police arrest suspect with R10 000 worth of dagga during Operation Vala Umgodi

A 32-year-old man was arrested in possession of dagga by police on 19 April.

ERMELO – A 32-year-old man appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on April 22, after police found dagga in his possession.

He was arrested by the police as part of a Vala Umgodi operation at a mine on April 19.

Police received information about suspicious bags left at the parcel counter of a supermarket.

They swiftly responded to the information and. on arriving at the supermarket, apprehended the suspect.

Inside two black plastic bags the police found about 3.5kg of dagga with an estimated street value of around R10 000.

The suspect has been formally charged with possession of dagga.

The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, expressed his satisfaction with the continued successes of Operation Vala Umgodi.

He commended the team for their vigilance and effectiveness in combatting illegal activities within the province.
