Man accused of raping 6-year-old appears in court
The suspect appeared in court in connection with the rape of a six-year-old girl in Arnot.
HENDRINA – A 27-year-old Ethiopian man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a six-year-old girl in Arnot.
According to Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, a provincial police spokesperson, the incident reportedly occurred at about 18:00 on April 3, when the young girl was sent to buy some items from a local tuck shop.
The incident was reported to the police and an investigation was launched by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The suspect was apprehended on April 5.
He appeared in the Hendrina Magistrate’s Court on April 7, where the case was postponed to April 14 for a formal bail application and an interpreter.
The outcome of this appearance was not yet known at the time of going to press.
The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General
Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, has strongly condemned this alleged heinous act of violence committed against a minor.
“We will spare no effort in ensuring that justice is served for the victim in this case. Our investigators, working closely with the prosecution, will see to it that the suspect faces the full consequences of his alleged actions,” he said. A case of rape, A case of rape,
