Dagga worth R800 000 seized near Chrissiesmeer
Police, working with local safety teams, intercepted a suspicious vehicle on the R33, leading to the discovery of a staggering 381kg of dagga worth an estimated R800 000.
CHRISSIESMEER – A total of 381kg of dagga, with an estimated value of around R800 000, was seized by police officers on April 30.
The police, working with local safety teams, were conducting routine stop-and-searches on the R33 between Warburton and Carolina, when they noticed a suspicious Toyota Hilux bakkie bearing Gauteng number plates.

“When the officers instructed the driver to halt, he accelerated instead and attempted to flee. A chase ensued, and the police were eventually able to stop the vehicle,” said Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, a police spokesperson.
A thorough search of the bakkie revealed a hidden stash of dagga.
The police found 64 small and 24 larger packets of dagga that were wrapped in plastic.
The driver, a 33-year-old man who is a citizen of the Kingdom of Eswatini, was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.
According to Mdhluli he is expected to appear in court soon to face the charges.
Highvelder sent media enquiries regarding his court appearance and awaits a response.
