Carolina Municipality condemns Silobela infrastructure vandalism

Unidentified individuals destroy Silobela’s power infrastructure, disrupt schools and homes, and threaten workers during urgent repairs.

CAROLINA – The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) condemned the recent acts of vandalism targeting critical electrical infrastructure in Silobela that have left residents without power.

“The deliberate damage to essential services is not only illegal but also deeply impacts the community, especially vulnerable households and businesses,” said Thapelo Phetla, spokesperson of CALM.

He added that on May 30 at around 01:30, unidentified individuals vandalised electrical infrastructure in the Silobela area, resulting in widespread power outages.

Among the areas that suffered from the power outages were Violet Jiyane Junior Secondary School and Sobhuza Primary School.
