Suspects caught in connection with murder plot involving insurance

Two suspects face charges after allegedly killing Sydwell Sibisi and fraudulently cashing in on insurance policies.

ERMELO – Two suspects, Sbongile Petunia Sibisi (47) and Ndumiso Romeo Mabona (23), appeared in the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court on June 17, facing charges of murder, fraud and theft in connection with the brutal killing of Sydwell Sibisi (61).

According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the provincial police spokesperson, reports indicated that on January 31, Sibisi was travelling with a family member between Volksrust and Daggakraal when the attack took place.

After their vehicle had suffered a flat tyre, the pair stopped to address the issue.

“A white Toyota Fortuner pulled up in front of them. It is further alleged that two people emerged from the Fortuner, handcuffed the family member accompanying Sibisi, while Sibisi was attacked with an axe and a panga,” said Ndubane.

The murder weapons were left at the crime scene.
