Four suspects arrested in Mayflower with an illegal firearm
Police patrolling Mayflower stopped a suspicious vehicle and arrest four suspects after discovering an illegal firearm.
MAYFLOWER – Four suspects, aged between 32 and 47, were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on June 14.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the provincial police spokesperson, the SAPS was conducting routine patrols and observed a suspicious red VW Golf with four occupants at about 00:20.
“The police stopped the vehicle and during the search, they found a silver pistol with its serial number scratched off hidden under a seat. None of the occupants claimed ownership of the firearm, leading to the immediate arrest of all four suspects,” said Ndubane.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are from Pienaar.

The red VW Golf was impounded for further investigation and to verify its ownership, as one suspect claimed it belongs to their mother.
They appeared in the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on June 17.
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, the acting provincial police commissioner, praised the officers for the arrests.
“There is no place for criminals in our province. If you think moving to another area means police will not detect you, think again. The men and women in blue across Mpumalanga are committed and vigilant in protecting our communities,” said Mkhwanazi.
