ERMELO – A 40-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a seven-year-old boy, following his conviction in the Ermelo Regional Court on June 19.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the provincial police spokesperson, at approximately 04:00 on 7 July 2023, while the boy was asleep at home with his father, the man, a family friend, knocked on the door and asked to spend the night.

The boy’s father allowed him to share his son’s room while he slept in another.

“It was alleged that the accused, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, forcibly undressed the child, raped him, and muffled his cries with a cushion,” said Ndubane.

Later the same day, the boy reported the incident to his father.

Upon confrontation, the individual denied all allegations.
