Fuel fraud alert: SACCW warns Ermelo filling stations

SACCW warns Ermelo filling stations to stay alert after a fuel scam causes major financial loss.

ERMELO – The South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) has issued a warning to filling station managers and staff in the region following a recent case of fuel fraud that resulted in significant financial loss for a local station.

In a message shared by Theo Craven of the SACCW, managers are asked to ensure that large fuel purchases, particularly those involving bowsers, are handled carefully.

Staff are urged to record as much information as possible during these transactions, including the vehicle registration number, driver’s name and contact number, company name, and contact details of the owner or person responsible for the purchase.

SACCW noted its awareness of a large fraudulent order that resulted in a local filling station suffering a big loss.

The organisation also highlighted that fuel purchases made at Ermelo stations by buyers from outside town – instead of at filling stations near their own location – should be treated with extra caution, and thoroughly documented.

Craven emphasised that accurate records are important for the SAPS to effectively investigate fraudulent transactions.

He encouraged managers and staff to remain vigilant and report any suspicious fuel purchases to local law enforcement and SACCW administrators.
