Husband witnesses wife’s fatal farm incident near Breyten

Police have opened a culpable homicide case after a 61-year-old woman was killed on a farm near Breyten.

BREYTEN – Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a tragic incident that claimed the life of Bishop Fetjie Virginia Mngomezulu (61) on a farm on November 5.

According to police spokesperson, Lt. col. Jabu Ndubane, officers were on patrol when they received a call at around 14:20 regarding a culpable homicide incident at Elim Farm near Breyten along the N11 road.

On arrival, one man, identified as James Mngomezulu, the husband of the deceased, pointed out the body of his wife lying in a pool of blood on the ground and showing no signs of life.

Police report that James had received a call from his farm dwellers reporting that a tractor was ploughing on his property.

He immediately went to the farm to investigate.

Upon his arrival, his wife and a family friend got out of their vehicle and tried to flag down the tractor driver.

Unfortunately, the deceased was struck by the blades at the back of the plough and was run over.

Emergency services responded to the scene, where Virginia was certified dead.

Her body was transported to the Ermelo pathology services for further investigation.

Police confirmed that the matter is still under investigation and that the case will be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a decision.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
