Lothair man caught with stolen livestock loses his vehicle

A Hawks team, handling the investigation, obtained a forfeiture order, and both the vehicle and the trailer were seized by the state.

LOTHAIR – Mazithulele Gamede’s (54) vehicle was permanently seized following a stock theft incident that took place on February 22, 2024 at about 21:00.

His Toyota bakkie valued at R260 000 and a trailer, were confiscated after he was caught in the act of loading two stolen cattle.

According to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, Gamede was confronted while loading the cattle onto a trailer.

He assaulted the person who confronted him and the police were called to the scene.

When officers arrived, they found the cattle already loaded onto the trailer and the assault in progress.

He was arrested, and the matter was handed over to the Ermelo Stock Theft unit.

The provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation commended all stakeholders involved and made it clear that the police will not only lock up criminals but also take away the assets they use to break the law.
