Hijackers tie up and assault operator before stealing grader near Morgenzon

A road worker was assaulted and a grader stolen in a brazen hijacking near Morgenzon on March 27.

MORGENZON – Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance after a violent hijacking of government machinery near Morgenzon.

The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport confirmed that a grader operator was beaten and fastened with ropes while conducting routine road maintenance on Road D500 at KwaZibhebhu on March 27.

The suspects fled with a Volvo grader with registration number GRC 209 MG.

A case has been opened with the South African Police Service, and authorities suspect the involvement of a criminal syndicate.

Initial reports indicate the suspects may be moving the grader towards the Eswatini border, possibly using gravel roads to avoid detection. The last tracker signal placed the machine near Ermelo.

Community members, particularly farmers and those with surveillance systems, are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information can contact Mr Reuben Masindi on 078 884 9972 or report it to their nearest police station.
