Fernie police arrest suspect linked to armed robbery probe

A firearm stolen during robbery was recovered after officers followed up on crucial intelligence in Fernie.

Fernie police have arrested a 37-year-old man following a tracing operation linked to a recent armed robbery and shooting incident on Fernie Main Road near the taxi rank.

Acting on intelligence received on June 8, officers located and searched a suspect in Fernie A near a local tavern, recovering a black pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm licence and was immediately arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Further investigation confirmed that the recovered firearm belonged to a victim who was recently robbed in the area.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the robbery and related offences are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
