Two suspects arrested as police seize dagga worth R50 000 near Ermelo
Two suspects were arrested and dagga worth an estimated R50 000 was seized after a Tactical Intelligence Operation on the R65 near Ermelo.
ERMELO – Two suspects, aged 24 and 27, were arrested and dagga worth an estimated R50 000 was seized during a Tactical Intelligence Operation conducted on the R65 Amsterdam Road near Ermelo on June 22.
According to police, the operation was launched after information was received from an informant regarding the transportation of dagga in the area.
Members of Ermelo Crime Intelligence acted on the information and alerted operational units, including the Mpumalanga Provincial Highway Patrol, the Gert Sibande District Task Team and the Ermelo K9 Unit.
The vehicle, a Toyota Hilux with Gauteng registration plates, was intercepted and searched.
During the search, officers discovered four bags of dagga.

The two occupants of the vehicle were subsequently arrested, and the confiscated exhibits were booked in for further processing as part of the investigation.
Police also seized the Toyota Hilux, which is valued at approximately R250 000.
Investigators are currently establishing whether the vehicle may have been stolen, as it is not registered in the names of either suspect.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the possession of and dealing in dagga.
The investigation remains ongoing.
