Department of Social Development donates food parcels to the needy

One elderly resident expressed gratitude to DSD for the food parcels.

ERMELO – The Department of Social Development (DSD) donated food parcels to families who reside on a farm on the Amersfoort Road on August 3.

Not only did the families receive food parcels, they were also given an opportunity to engage with DSD social workers and officials on social matters that include gender-based violence in the area, how they should report cases of abuse and how the department and police assist in such cases.

Sergeant Shamaine Mokoena of the Ermelo police taught them about different types of abuse and encouraged them to open cases against their perpetrators, especially that of domestic violence.

According to a DSD social worker, Sbusiso Masuku, they aim of the day was to ensure that residents receive social relief programmes and awareness and to assure them that they play an important role in the community and are not neglected.
