Ermelo business owners fuming over trucks in town

One businessman, who requested anonymity, said they had placed large cones filled with concrete outside their premises in the hope that they would serve as a deterrent, but these were simply pushed out of the way by truck drivers.

ERMELO – Business owners have expressed their annoyance with truck drivers parking and sleeping in front of their establishments in town.

One businessman, who requested anonymity, said they had placed large cones filled with concrete outside their premises in the hope that they would serve as a deterrent, but these were simply pushed out of the way by truck drivers.

“We also decided to take the issue to the traffic department, after which the officials were assigned to regulate the trucks. At first, this was very effective, and then they were nowhere to be found,” he said.

After asking around about the officials, he learnt that they were reportedly not permitted to work overtime.

He said the trucks continued to park there, even though it is against the municipal by-laws for them to do so.

Highvelder wrote about an operation that the Msukaligwa Traffic Department had carried out on July 14 in which trucks were stopped and fined if they passed through the town.
