Msukaligwa embarks on R41m sewage pipeline upgrade

The upgraded infrastructure aims to improve health and hygiene conditions for the residents.

Many residents have recently observed a temporary construction site established in Wes Street, adjacent to the Ermelo Sport Inn.

In conjunction with this, several roads and intersections have been temporarily closed, including the Wes Street and De Bruin Street intersection, as well as the Roberts Street and Wes Street intersection.

These closures were a result of an ongoing sewage pipeline upgrade project undertaken by Msukaligwa Local Municipality (MLM).

The sewage outfall pipeline project, located at Ext 32, 33, and 34, is a significant initiative being carried out by the MLM.

According to Mandla Zwane, MLM’s spokesperson, the municipality has allocated a budget of R41m for the sewerage infrastructure’s enhancement in these areas.

The project commenced on April 22, 2022, with the establishment of these construction sites. In July 2021, MLM appointed BTMN Engineers to oversee the provision of the sewer outfall pipeline for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 financial years.

Zwane emphasised that the primary objective of this project was to uplift the quality of life for the targeted communities by ensuring a reliable supply of sanitation with sufficient capacity to meet the current demand.

In light of the construction activities, Zwane asked the community for their patience during the pipeline laying and construction work, which may cause temporary inconveniences.
