Ermelo’s farmers come to community’s rescue

The municipality is working with stakholders to bring in water tankers as a temporary solution.

ERMELO – The Msukaligwa Local Municipality has implemented urgent measures to address the ongoing water shortage in Ermelo and surrounding areas, as Douglas Dam reaches critical levels.

In response to the dropping water levels at Douglas Dam, which is below its abstraction point, the municipality has drilled 18 boreholes across strategic areas, including Khayelihle, Everest Park, Ermelo East, and Chrissiesmeer.

These boreholes are equipped to augment the water supply in the affected areas.

The municipality said it is working with various stakeholders to secure water tanker assistance as a temporary solution while managing this severe shortage.

In the meanwhile, on December 7, farmers arrived with tankers carrying approximately 150 000 litres of water, stationed at the Game parking lot for residents to fill their containers.

The Democratic Alliance expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ermelo East Farming Community and BKB for their generosity in providing water during this critical time.

“Where the Msukaligwa Local Municipality fails the Ermelo community, our farming community always stands together to help us. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
