Join the effort to make the Sport-Inn a beacon for young athletes
Local clubs and volunteers are reviving Ermelo Sport-Inn. Your help can ensure it becomes a safe, vibrant space for young athletes.
ERMELO – The Ermelo Sport-Inn, a cornerstone for local sports, is being revived, but needs the community’s support.
The Ermelo Wrestling Club led repairs ahead of the 5th MSV Pumatjies Wrestling Tournament on September 20, fixing the roof, bathrooms, drainage, lighting, and signage with help from parents and local businesses. The effort took three weeks, but more work is needed.
Coach Ben de Wet said, “A few committed people can do a lot. Imagine what we could achieve if the whole community stands together. Ermelo must rise and make this town great for everyone.”
A full renovation would according to him cost around R250 000, combining funds, materials, and volunteer labour. Clubs believe the Sport-Inn can once again be a hub for youth development and community sport.

De Wet highlighted the importance of sport in the community: “As Nelson Mandela famously said, ‘Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.’
Pelé [footballer and former Brazilian minister of sports] also reminded us: ‘Sport is something that is very inspirational for young people. It teaches them discipline, respect and how to work with other people.'”
Basketball coach Zanele Mlambo added, “Every sports club wants to see the Sport-Inn restored. If everyone, clubs, parents, businesses and supporters, contribute, this facility can become a source of pride for the whole town.”
Community members are urged to donate, volunteer, or share their expertise to make the Sport-Inn a safe, vibrant hub once again.

Anyone who wants to contribute, whether with their time, skills, or expertise, can contact Ben de Wet at 082 440 7676 to get involved.
