Welldoers work around the clock to spruce up AJ Swanepoel Stadium in Ermelo

ERMELO – The AJ Swanepoel Stadium was left spic and span after several role players recently conducted a cleanup campaign.

The project was carried out by the community, Gateway City Church, Destiny Academy Gateway and the Southern African Christian School’s Sports Association (Sacssa) MP.

Pr Jandré Crous of the Gateway City Church said the school uses the facilities for practices and events that take place over weekends.

“That is the reason we try to do an annual upgrade of the stadium with the help of Sacssa MP and other local Christian schools,” he said.

“The stadium staff members, under the management of Sipho Msibi, were incredibly accommodating and excited about the improvements being made to the space.”

Old benches were repaired and renovated, old water pipes were replaced, the long jump pit was filled with sand, the flag pole was renovated and numerous garbage bags were filled with litter that tainted the stadium’s image.

“These sports facilities have always been important to me, and I want them to continue to be important to my boys and to their children and children’s children,” Crous said.

He invited the community to work with them in maintaining and preserving the stadium for future generations.
