Highvelder shines at Avbob FCJ Excellence Awards

CAPE TOWN – Highvelder was rewarded at the Avbob FCJ Excellence Awards held in this city on August 4.
Hosted by the Forum of Community Journalists (FCJ) NPC, the competition has become a well-known event in the media industry, with the number of individual entries almost doubling from last year. The 2022 competition had attracted 527 individual entries.
Caxton walked away with the top honours by winning the Journalist of the Year, Photographer of the Year and Upcoming Journalist of the Year categories.
The awards ceremony celebrated the best in community journalism, and Highvelder’s contributions were also acknowledged with multiple honours.
Wayne van der Walt, Highvelder editor, secured top honours in four categories: Photographer of the Year, News Photo of the Year, Sport Photo of the Year, and General Photo of the Year. In addition, Highvelder received acclaim for its front pages too, earning it second place in the category of Best Front Page for Corporate-owned Free Newspapers. The newspaper’s commitment to delivering impactful front pages was commended.
