Ermelo Regional Court sentences 18-year-old murderer

They stoned him to death, dragged his body into a nearby forest and fled with his vehicle. The vehicle was later found in possession of one of the suspects who was then arrested.

SHEEPMOOR – The Ermelo Regional Court sentenced an 18-year-old to 40 years’ imprisonment on May 27 for the murder of his employer.

According to Detective Sergeant Nkosinathi Shabangu of the Sheepmoor SAPS, the murder occurred at a farm outside Sheepmoor on April 18, 2021.

“Three employees ambushed their employer on his farm and kidnapped him,” Shabangu said.

“They stoned him to death, dragged his body into a nearby forest and fled with his vehicle. The vehicle was later found in possession of one of the suspects who was then arrested.”

Lesang Mokoena was sentenced to five years for kidnapping, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 20 years for murder and three months for contravention of Section 49(1)(a), Act 13 of the Illegal Immigration Act 2002.

The court decided all sentences would run concurrently, and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
