Structural failure forces closure of Carolina-Chrissiesmeer road

Extensive damage to the road surface has necessitated immediate closure to ensure public safety.

The P177 Carolina-Chrissiesmeer road has been closed end-to-end 7.5 km from Carolina due to structural failure.

Traffic has been diverted as follows:

  • R33 Carolina traffic: Diverted via R36 to Breyten and Ermelo.
  • R36 Breyten traffic: Diverted via R542 for access to Chrissiesmeer.
  • N17 Chrissiesmeer traffic: Diverted to R542 and then to R36, heading to Breyten and Carolina.

Motorists are urged to comply with the designated traffic diversion plan and plan their journeys accordingly.

Warning signs have been placed at the site to alert motorists of ongoing repairs. The damaged section of the road has been cordoned off.
