WATCH: Road deterioration pushes residents to extreme measures in Ermelo

Residents and business owners have had enough of deteriorating condition of Havenga Street and demand urgent intervention.

ERMELO – Frustrated business owners and employees in Havenga Road took matters into their own hands earlier today, January 17, closing down Havenga Street in protest against the deteriorating state of the road.

The closure, which caused significant traffic disruptions, was intended to force a meeting with the Msukaligwa Local Municipality and officials from Sanral to address their urgent concerns.

Trucks were left stranded in queues for nearly two hours. The road closure was eventually resolved after police intervention.

The people said they want to arrange urgent meeting with the relevant authorities to discuss the urgent need for road repairs and the plan going forward.

They said that if their concerns are not addressed promptly and effectively, they will be forced to resort another road closure.

The deteriorating condition of Havenga Street has been a source of ongoing frustration for businesses and residents in the area.

The road surface is riddled with potholes, causing damage to vehicles and posing a safety hazard to motorists.
