Ermelo karatekas shine at provincial championships

Aiden Bouwer, Chibuzo and Chinedu Okpugo, secured medals during the Mpumalanga Karate Association’s Annual provincial championship.

The Ermelo Karate Academy participated in the Mpumalanga Karate Association’s Annual provincial championships in Secunda on February 8.

A trio of dedicated students, Aiden Bouwer, Chibuzo and Chinedu Okpugo, competed in both kata (form) and kumite (fighting), securing a collection of medals.

The medals they received are:
• Chibuzo: Gold in kumite, bronze in kata
• Chinedu: Silver in kumite, bronze in kata
• Aiden: Bronze in kumite, 5th place in kata (development division), achieving this at only his first karate competition.

Beyond competing, Chibuzo and Chinedu also pursued their accreditation as provincial judges, taking part in the judges/referees course alongside their fellow student, Lesedi Twala.

Their efforts resulted in some remarkable achievements:
• Chibuzo: Provincial kata B qualification
• Chinedu: Provincial kata B and kumite B qualifications
• Lesedi: Provincial kata B qualification.

Chinedu Okpugo, Lesedi Twala, Sensei Thabo Molubi, Sensei Eugene Smith and Chibuzo Okpugo.
