Two bodies found near entrance of derelict mine outside Ermelo

The police suspect the cause of death may be linked to the hazardous underground conditions, but this has not yet been confirmed.

ERMELO – The police found two bodies at the abandoned Goldview Mine on the Hendrina Road on March 5.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, the Ermelo SAPS’s spokesperson, the authorities were alerted to the scene early that morning.

Upon arrival, the officers found the two bodies near the entrance of the derelict mine shaft.

“No sign of visual injuries were observed on either body, suggesting no foul play was involved,” said Prinsloo.

The police suspect the cause of death may be linked to the hazardous underground conditions, but this has not yet been confirmed.
