ERMELO – Chaos broke out at the Gert Sibande District College’s (GS College) campus as students protested, burning tires and disrupting campus activities on March 19.

Police responded to the scene, and according to an eyewitness, students were dispersed as officers arrived.

Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson for Ermelo police told the newspaper nine students were taken in to the police station for interrogation.

According to one of the students , the strike stemmed from grievances related to the non-payment of student accommodation and transportation.
