ERMELO – Cllr Sphiwe Ernest Ngovene has been appointed as the acting executive mayor on March 28 following a car accident involving the executive mayor, Mapulane Precious Nkosi.

The accident occurred on the R40 in Mbombela on March 6. Nkosi, accompanied by her two bodyguards, was transported to Nelspruit Mediclinic following the incident.

This left her temporarily unable to fulfil her duties.

During the recent ordinary council meeting, the members unanimously voted to appoint Ngovene as acting executive mayor to ensure municipal operations continue uninterrupted.

As acting executive mayor, Ngovene will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of municipal policies, ensuring the delivery of essential services, and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders.

He will also play a crucial role in co-ordinating with other government entities and community organisations to address pressing local issues.

One of the immediate tasks Ngovene will attend to is to ensure the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan is implemented.

The plan outlines strategic objectives for community development and service delivery.

He will work closely with the municipal manager and other officials to ensure these objectives are met.

The council wishes Nkosi a speedy recovery.
