Strong winds uproot trees, damage car in Ermelo

Unexpected chaos hits Ermelo as emergency crews respond to fallen trees

ERMELO – Strong winds wreaked havoc in town, uprooting two large trees on May 21.

One of the fallen trees crashed onto a parked car outside the Msukaligwa Fire Station.

Fortunately, the vehicle was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported.

Municipal workers arrived on the scene soon afterwards to assess the damage and begin the clean-up operation.

Another tree that fell at the intersection of Wes and De Clercq streets blocked the entire road.

In light of these incidents, Theo Craven of the South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) ,issued a warning to both residents and motorists.

“We’ve received two reports of trees being blown over, with one causing damage to a vehicle,” Craven said.

He urged the public to exercise caution during windy conditions and to avoid parking near trees, especially those that appear older or unstable.
