Ermelo mourns passing of doctor Déan Tait, respected general surgeon
Tait’s medical career began in the Transkei, where he served as a medical officer after completing his internship and community service.
The Ermelo community is mourning the loss of Dr. Déan Tait, a skilled general surgeon who practised privately at Mediclinic Ermelo.
Tait began his medical career as a medical officer in the Transkei following his internship and community service.
Over the years, he worked across various hospitals nationwide, gaining broad experience in the public and private sectors.

In 2022, he qualified as a general surgeon and has been a locum surgeon in both public and private hospitals in Cape Town.
His compassionate care and dedication left a lasting impact on patients and colleagues alike.
The general hospital manager of Mediclinic Ermelo, Tessa Williamson, said, “Doctor Tait was one of a kind. He wasn’t only a doctor; he was my friend. I’m going to miss him running into my office just to say hi. Rest well, we will forever carry you in our hearts.”
A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place tomorrow, June 26, at 11:00 AM in the foyer of the N.G. Kerk De Bruinpark. Refreshments will be served.
