Worker killed in flaker machine in Lothair

First responders found the victim, trapped in a flakers machine. He was declared dead on the scene.

LOTHAIR – A fatal industrial accident in Lothair has led to an inquest docket being opened.

The incident, that occurred earlier today on August 6, around 05:40, resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man.

According to Constable Nkosingiphile Petronela Simelane, spokesperson of Lothair police, first responders found the victim, trapped in a flaker machine.

A flaker is a machine that uses rollers to flatten grains or other materials into thin flakes.

He sustained severe  injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

“All relevant role players were notified and attended the scene, including the Local Crime Scene Management (LCRC) detective on standby,” said Simelane.

Following the procedures, the deceased’s body was subsequently handed over to Ermelo Pathology Service for further examination and autopsy.

The Department of labour was informed.
